Bear cub smashes through glass door into school

A bear cub, apparently wanting to walk through the front hall at the Ogdensburg Elementary School, New Jersey, didn't see the glass door in front of him and accidentally crashed through the door, said a spokesman for the state Department of Environmental Protection.

"Evidentally, he thought he could get out the other side," said DEP spokesman Lawrence Hajna. "All indications are that it was an accidental entry."

It was at about 8 p.m. on Friday when custodians heard a crash and called police, said Superintendent/Principal Timothy Nicinski. The bear had entered a first-floor classroom, where it was coaxed by police to eventually exit through a window.

The animal then fled into the woods near the school, whose mascot happens to be a bear.
