Donald Trump Scottish anti-wind turbine ad rapped for using image of Hawaii

Complaints about newspaper adverts commissioned by the Trump Organisation showing broken and rusting wind turbines for using an image from Hawaii under the headline 'Welcome to Scotland' have been upheld.

A picture in the Press and Journal newspaper showed the turbines, with a disclaimer admitting it was not taken in Scotland. It was not enough to save the advert from criticism from the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA).

Donald Trump is against wind farms. The US billionaire is campaigning to prevent the construction of a major wind farm off the Aberdeen coast, close to his new golf course at Menie. The advert warned: "Alex Salmond wants to build 8,750 of these monstrosities". The image used was of a wind farm in Hawaii that had been built in 1987 and had been decommissioned in 2006.

The model of turbine was so old there was not any chance that it could ever be used in Scotland. The ASA said the pictures had given a misleading impression of the possible consequences of the Scottish government's plans to use wind turbines. The ASA said the advert should not be used again in its current form.

He only gives a shit about wind farms because he's afraid they'll ruin the view from his ridiculous golf course. TBH I quite like them, they make the otherwise green wasteland of GB more interesting.

Trump had planning permission granted to ruin the Scottish countryside, but thinks nobody else should do it? Nice.

Wind turbines only have a place as part of an overall strategy for renewable energy. Alone they are pretty useless, but the Scottish government's strategy relies almost totally on wind farms. Not good.

Anybody who lives near a turbine that has overspeeded and shaken itself to bits would definitely advise against building them anywhere near housing. And obviously they should no more be built in the countryside than any other form of generating plant. Catch 22.
