Enterprising Australian brothel offers 'Pie, Coke and a poke' lunchtime specials

Ladies of the night are attempting to crack the daytime market with lunchtime meal deals offering a “Pie, Coke and a poke”. An exodus of tradesmen to the mines has forced legal brothels to find ways of attracting new clients. The lunch break brothel quickie fits in with a broader trend in the sex industry, with one academic revealing it is also a peak time for accessing online porn.

One Sunshine Coast legal brothel, Scarlet Harem, is hoping to lure stressed workers away from computers and construction sites with its lunch offerings. For a “limited time only” clients can get a deal which includes a hot pie and Coke with their choice of a range of “services”. The special launched this month has been advertised as “Pie, Coke ‘n’ Poke Lunchtime fun”. The award-winning brothel in Kunda Park, Queensland, has also extended its opening hours and is advertising “early bird” specials. Madam of 13 years and businesswoman Paris Satine said visiting a bordello was a “different way to spend your lunchtime”.

With studies finding more and more stressed Australians are eating at their desks, Ms Satine said her ladies could aid in relaxation. “They can come in for a massage, they don’t have to have sex,” she said. “There’s nothing better than a relaxing massage and someone giving you lunch on the way out.” Queensland University of Technology researcher and author Professor Belinda Carpenter said sex was becoming a “fun recreational pursuit” so it made sense for brothels to focus on the midday meet up with lighthearted advertising. “They are spot on in the way they are marketing it at lunchtime. You’ve got one hour off, and you’re sitting at your desk.

“Why not go on an Eros site. They’re advertising it in a fun quirky way which supports the research,” she said. But with tens of thousands of free online porn sites, as well as hook-up Apps for people looking for sex, Prof Carpenter said a downside to a bordello lunch date could be the cost. According to the state Prostitution Licensing Authority’s website, Queensland has 26 licensed brothels, with 13 in Brisbane and five on the Gold Coast. Scarlet Harem is the only licensed brothel on the Sunshine Coast. Ms Satine said her business catered to everyone and would soon be presented with an Access Advisory Network business award for services to disabled and handicapped patients.
